James Sandler

James covered the federal judicial system as a staff reporter for CIR. He previously spent nearly two years working as a private investigator at Kroll, Inc. in its Business Intelligence and Investigations practice. Based at Kroll’s Chicago and San Francisco offices, James assisted a Fortune 500 client base in cases involving hostile takeovers, intellectual property disputes, and fraud.

Prior to joining Kroll, James worked for three years for The New York Times where he was part of a small team of journalists awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service following a nine-month investigation of workplace injuries and deaths at a nationwide pipe foundry.

James has reported on a freelance basis for various newspapers and television outlets including the CBS Evening News, PBS Frontline and the San Francisco Chronicle.

James holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a recipient of the I.F. Stone Scholarship for Investigative Reporting. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
